Grandview Projection Screens -
Choose the Right Screen

  Choosing The Right Screen

When choosing a screen, you have to ask yourself some questions.

1.         Do I need a 4:3 or 16:9 aspect ratio screen?

4:3 - These screens are most often used for business applications, such as in presentations and meetings
16:9 - This is by far the most popular ratio for home theater because it is the native aspect ratio of HDTV and also much closer to the aspect ratio of many movies than 4:3.

2.         What size do I need?

It is understandable to want to use as big a screen as possible. There are drawbacks however,
the larger the screen the brighter the projector needed. A larger screen will need more light output from your projector than a smaller screen would for an equally bright picture. Also even if a large screen looks bright enough initially with a new projector, as the bulb ages the light output can drop by 50%, making the once pleasing picture now to dark to watch.

  • The closer one sits to the picture, the more you see the flaws in the picture.
  • Pixels, the individual building blocks of the picture become visible.
  • Artifacts, distortions in the picture, also can become visible and a distraction.

A good rule of thumb is to choose a viewing distance of 1.5 - 2.0 times the screen width.
Sitting closer than 1.5 can become a distraction because of the visible pixels and artifacts unless perhaps you have one of the new 1080p projectors.

What type of projection screen do I need?

Manual Pull-down Screen:

These projection screens are popular because they are inexpensive and easy to operate.Grandview Cyber Manual Screens offer several outstanding features:

  • selflock: Pull down the screen and hold for 3 seconds, then release. The screen will stay at the desired position.
  • wrinkle-free: other screens get creases when they are retracted back into the casing because the pring system keeps pulling the screen tighter against the metal casing. Grandviews system prevents this and our screens are always wrinkle-free.
  • Controlled Screen Return: Instead of whipping back into the case and possibly causing damage if someone wasn’t careful, Grandview Cyber Manual Screens feature Speed Reduction-Retraction. Simply pull down lightly to release the locking mechanism, let go and the screen will slowly return to the casing.

Electric Pull-Down Screen:

These projection screens are more expensive than the manual screens, but they can be operated with a remote control from the comfort of your chair. Some of  Grandview Electric Pull-Down Screens outstanding features include:

  • Somfy Tubular Motor: this is a world-renowned power motor made by Somfy Power Systems in France. It is quiet, secure and precise.
